Q:

What is Neural Survival Factor-1 (NSF-1)? What is the proper way to use NSF-1?

A:

Lonza’s Neural Survival Factor-1 (NSF-1) is a complex mixture of various compounds, chemicals, cytokines, and growth factors. NSF-1 comes prepared as a 50x solution. As such, it is recommended that the one 4 ml vial of NSF-1 is used to supplement 200 ml of total media for a final NSF-1 concentration of 2.0%. For optimal use, Lonza suggests thawing, alliquoting, and refreezing the NSF-1 in single use sizes so that you can add fresh NSF-1 with each media change.

The NSF-1 is comprised of the following components (the concentrations of each of these components are proprietary and are not disclosed): Vitamins: Biotin DL Alpha Tocopherol Acetate DL Alpha-Tocopherol Vitamin A (acetate) Proteins: BSA, fatty acid free Fraction V Catalase Human Recombinant Insulin Human Transferrin Superoxide Dismutase Other Components: Corticosterone D-Galactose Ethanolamine HCl Glutathione (reduced) L-Carnitine HCl Linoleic Acid Linolenic Acid Progesterone Putrescine 2HCl Sodium Selenite T3 (triodo-I-thyronine)
