Q:

How many donors are pooled to create the pooled human cells?

A:

Lonza is offering the following primary cells from single donors and from pooled donors:

  • HUVEC (human umbilical vein endothelial cells)
  • NHEK-neo (human epidermal keratinocytes)
  • HMVEC-dNeo (human microvascular endothelial cells, dermal, neonatal)

When preparing Lonza’s pooled human cell products, at least three donors are pooled, but there is not an upper limit. Historically, Lonza has as many as six donors to create a single lot, but not higher. The vast majority of lots for Lonza’s pooled human cell products are pooled from three donors. These cells are pooled just prior vialing/cryopreservation. Each strain is handled individually until final trypsinization and then the cells are pooled and vialed.
