Q:

Where are Lonza’s PrSC cells isolated from? What cells will be in the PrSC population?

A:

Lonza’s Prostate Stromal Cells (PrSC) are isolated from the stroma of the prostate. Lonza’s Prostate Stromal Cells (PrSC) are a mixed population of cells, however, the majority of the cells in this population are fibroblastic in origin. It is not uncommon for there to be a small amount of smooth muscle cells present in this culture. Typical levels of smooth muscle cells in this population will be approximately 5%-10% in the second passage out of cryopreservation, however, Lonza does not guarantee a specific purity for this product. The recommended for culturing Lonza’s Prostate Stromal Cells (PrSC), the SCGM™ Stromal Cell Growth Medium, is designed to selectively enhance the growth of the fibroblastic cells in comparison to the growth of the smooth muscle cells.
